Music is a universal language that transcends through all walks of life’s barriers and changes lives. The mission of Maurice Smith Music is to change lives through an outlook on life through music that respects all that listens. When you take your journey into this life of love, you will feel the energy that has saved the souls of many. With this project, we will pour out a shower of love upon you as you listen to the words in these songs.
A native of Mississippi, a state known as the birthplace of the Blues and Gospel, Maurice Smith has been one of Los Angeles’ most sought after vocalist for the past three years. He has graced the stage with some of the finest artists the music industry has to offer such as Beyonce, Seal, LeAnn Rimes, The Mary Jane Girls, Sy Smith (Who was nominated for “Song of the Year” by SoulTracks.com in 2010), Cassandra O’Neal (keyboardist for Prince), Teddy Campbell (Drummer for The Tonight Show Band & husband of Tina Campbell of Mary Mary), Jessy J (Billboard Jazz charts #1 album, Hot Sauce, in 2011), Will Donato (Single, Funkability, #7 on SmoothJazz.com), Raymond Calhoun (former drummer of The Gap Band & writer of, Outstanding), and DeWayne Wiggins (founding member, writer, and producer for Tony Toni Tone) just to name a few. Maurice Smith has garnered praise from these artists and fans alike. Smith featured with Jessy J at the 2012 Gardena Jazz Festival and quickly became the talk of the festival with a lineup that included, DW3, Kori Withers, and Eric Darius. Along with these performances, Smith was personally asked by DeVon Franklin, Studio Executive at Sony Pictures Entertainment, to perform at his wedding reception following his marriage to actress, Meagan Good, after Franklin caught one of Smith’s highly acclaimed performances.
On any given day you can find him serenading audiences at local venues. An old soul, Maurice is clearly influenced by the greats. He counts among his influences, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Al Green and is often compared to the celebrated tenors of our time such as Stokeley, Raphael Saadiq, El DeBarge, and the greatest of them all Stevie Wonder.
Fans have been anxiously awaiting the debut album from Maurice Smith along with the subsequent tour. With a knack for the sensual and a gift for conveying the story in every song he sings, the charming down home boy with leading man looks is ready to take on the world. You see, while Angelinos have been enjoying the soulful sounds of this amazing vocalist for years, his “Private Use Only” EP will be his introduction to the world. The music project has already garnered him praise from some of the music industry’s elite. The independently released project covers an Al Green classic entitled, "Simply Beautiful", which Maurice manages to add his own unique flavor to; thus, opening a whole new generation to the already timeless song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6vVLGvIoj0
While Maurice is definitely able to deliver ballads, he wants you to know, there will be some dance floor grooves, kind of like what the Elements (Earth, Wind and Fire) would give the people. This project will take you from the dance floors straight to the bedroom.
The much anticipated “Private Use Only” EP is scheduled for release on May 12th on TopNotch/InGrooves/Universal Records. For bookings or for more information please contact email@example.com
